The historic Education Day will be observed today by various student and teacher organisations marking the 59th anniversary of the sacrifice students made on September 17, 1962 while protesting against the SM Sharif-led Education Commission.
Different student organisations will place floral wreaths at the Shikkha Odhikar Chattar monument near the Supreme Court compound in the morning.
Swadhinata Shikkhak Parishad will observe the day organising a programme at the National Press Club in the afternoon.
On September 17, 1962, three students — Mostafa, Babul and Wajiullah — were killed in police firing when students were protesting against the SM Sharif-led Education Commission following publication of its report.
Since then students and teachers have been observing September 17 as the Education Day demanding a scientific, single-stream, pro-people and secular education system in the country.
