Dhaka North City Corporation on Tuesday signed an agreement with Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Limited for installing 46,410 LED bulbs under the city corporation area costing Tk 369 crore 14 lakh.
At the signing ceremony held at DNCC Bhaban at Gulshan, Dhaka north city mayor Md Atiqul Islam said that by the January some parts of the city would be illuminated by LED bulbs.
‘LED bulbs will make the city safer,’ he said.
He said that the lights were imported from Europe with 10 years of warranty. The bulbs power would be between 150 and 40 watt, he added.
DNCC superintending engineer and also project manager of LED street light project Md Rafiqul Islam and BMTFL general manager (sales) Lieutenant Colonel Tofail Ahmed signed the agreement on behalf of their organisations.
BMTFL is a commercial automobile assembly plant of the Bangladesh Army.
DNCC chief executive officer Selim Reza, chief engineer Brigadier General Muhammad Amirul Islam and BMTFL director Brigadier General Ashraful Islam, among others, were present.
