The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday asked stock market investors to refrain from spreading rumours about companies.
The BSEC on the day issued an order in this connection.
In the order, the BSEC asked all persons or entities concerned, who are directly and indirectly connected with the stock market, or investors of securities to refrain from spreading any prediction or price forecasting or any undisclosed information in any form including the social media posts.
It also asked them to avoid using the names and logos of BSEC, Dhaka Stock Exchange and Chittagong Stock Exchange in profile or page of individual or group in any form including the social media.
The order said contravention of the directive must attract appropriate panel provisions of securities laws and Digital Security Act, 2018.
BSEC officials said that the commission made the decision as it observed that share prices of a number of listed companies were surging abnormally on rumours.
Some people were seen spreading various information and price forecast about the companies on the social media, they said.
