A youth was arrested in Sylhet early Wednesday on charge of making objectionable comments about the Quran and Islamic doctrine of marriage on social media.
The arrested was identified as Radhakanta Biswas, 25, son of Raymani Biswas, of Nij Ghilachara village at Fenchuganj upazila in Sylhet, police said.
Local people said that Radhakanta wrote arrogant comments on the timeline of his Facebook account Tuesday night that created anger in the Muslim community of the area.
Noticing the incident, a team of Fenchuganj police went to Ghilachara area Tuesday midnight and assured the local residents of arresting Radhakanta, locals added.
Fenchuganj police officer-in-charge ABM Badruzzaman said that they arrested Radhakanta at about 2:30am on Wednesday.
The arrested was produced before the chief judicial magistrate court of the district at noon after filing a case under the Digital Security Act against him, the police officer said, adding that he also made confessional statement to the court about his objectionable status on the social media.
The OC also informed that the court ordered to send the accused to jail in the afternoon after recording his statement.
