Bangladesh will host two international hockey tournaments, which were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in January and March next year, said Bangladesh Hockey Federation officials on Wednesday.
The Asian Hockey Federation approved the BHF’s proposal of hosting the Under-21 Asia Cup from January 21 to 31 before hosting the rescheduled Hero Men’s Asian Champions Trophy from March 11 to 19.
The sixth edition of the Asian Champions Trophy was originally scheduled to be held from November 17-27 while the Under-21 tournament was supposed to take place from June 4-12 this year, but in March the AHF postponed both tournaments due to the pandemic.
The AHF on August 18 rescheduled the Asian Champions Trophy but did not reschedule the Under-21 tournament.
The BHF organisers later in a letter to the AHF expressed their interest to host the Under-21 tournament in January.
‘We got a letter from AHF today [Wednesday].They approved our proposal of hosting the Under-21 Asia Cup in January before the Asian Champions Trophy,’ BHF acting general secretary Mohammad Yousuf told New Age.
