Directorate General of Health Services director general ABM Khurshid Alam on Sunday regretted over the restriction on journalists’ entry to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for last six years.
‘I have come to know that there was a restriction on the entrance of journalists. If I am responsible for this, I am sorry and apologising to you,’ he said while exchanging views with journalists at the hospital.
Earlier in April 2014, intern doctors attacked journalists at the hospital while the newsmen were taking pictures of an assault on carers by some intern doctors.
At least 10 journalists were injured in the attack while Jamuna TV cameraperson was sent to Dhaka for better treatment. Following the incident, the hospital authorities banned journalists’ entry into the hospital.
Later on January 4, 2020, health minister Zahid Maleque also asked journalists to take permission from the authorities concerned before entering Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Emphasising the role of the media in the health sector, DG Professor ABM Khurshid Alam also requested RMCH director to help journalists.
Among others, Directorate General of Health Services director (hospitals and clinics) Farid Hossain Miah, Rajshahi Medical College principal Nowshad Ali, Rajshahi Divisional Health director Gopendranath Acharya, and RMCH director Jamilur Rahman were present at the programme.
