Environment minister tests positive for  COVID-19

Environment, forest and climate change minister and ruling Awami League lawmaker M Shahab Uddin on Wednesday tested positive for COVID-19.

Maulvibazar-1 lawmaker Shahab Uddin was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka following an instruction from prime minister Sheikh Hasina, ministry public relations officer Dipankar Bar said.

He said that the 66-year old minister gave swab on Tuesday to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research for COVID-19 test and got his report positive Wednesday. Including Shahab Uddin, at least 17 AL lawmaker tested positive for COVID-19.

Of them, lawmaker for Naogaon-6 constituency M Israfil Alam died of pneumonia after contracting COVID-19 on July 27.

Earlier on June 13, AL MP for Sirajganj-1 and former health minister Mohammed Nasim died of COVID-19.

On June 14, state minister for religious affairs Sheikh M Abdullah died of COVID-19 at the CMH, Dhaka.
