Journalist Abdul Hye Negahban Poltu, 50, died from brain stroke in Barishal on Tuesday.

Abdul Hye, a staff reporter of local daily Barishaler Kagoj, had been suffering from diabetes, blood pressure and other diseases, said his elder brother lawyer Ismail Hossain Negahban, also district correspondent of the Daily Observer.

Abdul Hye was a lawyer and also a member of Barishal Reporters Unity.

Family members said that after feeling sick at home in Amanatganj area of the city he was rushed to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where attending doctors declared him dead at about 12:30pm.

He was buried at Barishal Muslim Graveyard after Maghrib prayers following namaz-e-janaza at Barishal Mahmudia Madrassah.

Local elites, journalists, cultural and political leaders and his well-wishers attended the namaz-e-janaza.

Barishal Reporters Unity announced a three-day mourning programme for the sudden demise of its member.
