The Anti-Corruption Commission has filed a case against Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College, Sirajganj project director Krishna Kumar Pal and Bengal Scientific and Surgical Company proprietor M Jaher Uddin Sarkar on charge of embezzlement of Tk 30.3 crore.
The commission deputy assistant director Mohammad Shajahan Miraj filed the case with ACC integrated office in Pabna after his inquiry found that the two embezzled the money in the name of equipment procurement, said the commission’s director for public relations Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.
He said that the people violated all procurement rules while Jaher Uddin collected the money from the medical authority just showing acceptance documents without supplying the equipment.
Jaher Uddin showed the procurement documents from Fervent Company Limited, which was shown registered in Hong Kong, while the commission found that Jaher Uddin was the actual owner of the company.
The amount was deposited into an account with a Hong Kong-based bank, Pranab said.
The commission brought the charge against the people under the Corruption Prevention Act 1974 and the Money Laundering Prevention Act 2012.
Pranab said that Jahir Uddin was also named in several cases filed earlier for health sector corruption.
In December last year, the commission official interrogated Krishna for about five hours at the commission interrogation cell in its headquarters.
