Education minister Dipu Moni on Sunday said that all vacant posts of vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor and treasurer of public and private universities would be filled soon.
After a virtual meeting with education ministry officials, Dipu Moni said that they would ask public universities to send lists of senior professors with their profiles by August 31 to the ministry for the selection of vice-chancellors for three public universities and pro-vice chancellors for 25 public universities.
University Grants Commission officials said that Chittagong University, Barishal University and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University in Gopalganj were running without vice-chancellors. An acting vice-chancellor is leading Chittagong University, they said.
Dipu Moni also asked all private universities running without vice-chancellors, pro-vice-chancellors or treasurers to send names against vacant posts to the ministry by September 10 for candidate selection.
‘The government will take action if any of the universities misses the deadline,’ she said.
Nineteen private universities now run without VCs and 83 out of 105 private universities have no pro-VCs, said UGC officials.
Deputy education minister Mohibul Hassan Choudhury and education secretary Md Mahbub Hossain, among others, joined the meeting.
