Newly appointed administrator of the Chattogram City Corporation Mohammed Khorshed Alam Sujon on Saturday said that he would work to ease public sufferings in the port city by repairing roads and developing drainage system on priority basis.
He warned CCC officials about his zero tolerance towards corruption.
He was speaking at a press conference, organised by the Chattogram Journalist Forum, at the Dhaka Reporters Unity.
Khorshed said that the residents of Chattogram had been suffering from acute traffic congestion, waterlogging and pollution for long.
He took the charge of the CCC on Thursday, a day after he had been appointed as the administrator of the city corporation by the government as the CCC’s elected council led by AJM Nasir Uddin had expired on August 5.
Khorshed, who is also Awami League’s Chittagong unit vice-president, said that the port city people faced traffic congestion due to the container terminals on the outskirts of the city.
He said that he would not allow make-shift container terminal haphazardly in the city.
He said that another long-lasting crisis in the city was waterlogging.
Within one year waterlogging problem would be solved as a mega project is under implementation to solve the crisis, he said.
‘I have been given only 180 days of time but I will try to bring back comfort to the city life by repairing roads and developing drainage system on priority basis,’ he said.
CJF president Shahed Siddique addressed the programme while its general secretary Morshed Noman moderated it.
