One hundred families of Samanta village in Jhenaidah’s Maheshpur upazila are suffering after some locally influential people constructed a house on a road.

Sources said Sanwar Hossain, son of Latif Shwarnakar, and two sons of Latif Bepary, Kalam and Abul, are illegally building a house on road after occupying it.

The road stretches from Samanta Gopalpur mouja to Shatnalpara. Their move has forced 100 families to use an alternative road for communication.

Residents said they are living like prisoners as Sanwar, Kamal and Babul have built a house and sanitary latrine blocking the road.

Hafiz Al Asad, assistant commissioner (land) of the upazila, has already ordered stopping the construction work after getting complaints but they did not pay any heed to the order.

Sujon Sarkar, Maheshpur upazila land officer, said another notice will be sent to them to stop the construction work.
