Tangail AL leader hacked dead

Unidentified assailants hacked an Awami League leader to death near Ajgora canal under Dhonbari upazila in Tangail Friday night.

The deceased, Aminul Islam Nixon, 45, of village Ajgora under Gopalpur upazila, was the general secretary of Hadira union AL. He was also a teacher of Lion Nazrul Islam Degree College in Tangail.

He used to live in Dhonbari upazila town with his family.

Dhonbari police station officer-in-charge Chand Mia, quoting locals, said that unidentified assailants swooped on him as he crossed Ajgora canal, a bordering area of Dhonbari and Gopalpur upazila, at about 11:00pm when Nixon was going to his Dhonbari residence from his ancestral home by a motorcycle.

He said that Nixon fell from the motorcycle and the assailants hacked him indiscriminately. They fled the scene leaving Nixon in a pool of blood.

The OC said that locals rescued him and took him to Modhupur Upazila Health Complex where doctors said that he had been brought dead.

The OC said that no case was lodged and none was arrested until Saturday morning.
