Shimulia–Kathalbari ferry services suspended for strong current, erosion

Ferry services on Shimulia–Kathalbari route on the River Padma was suspended on Friday evening in the face of strong current and erosion.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation suspended ferry services on the channel at 8:00pm.

The corporation assistant general manager at Shimulia terminal office Shafiqul Islam said that in past few days they were frequently suspending ferry services on the channel because of erosion and strong current.

The service was suspended one early Friday and resumed at about 7:00am, he said.

For the same reason they suspended the service at 8:00pm on Friday again, he continued.

Shafiqul also said that after the suspension many vehicles from Dhaka went back.

Throughout the day huge pressure of vehicles carrying homegoers was seen at Shimulia terminal area.
