The 19th Dhaka International Film Festival will be held from January 16 – 24, 2021 and all films will have to be submitted before September 30.
Films will be screened at different venues including Bangladesh National Museum, Sufia Kamal National Public Library, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Alliance Francaise de Dhaka and Star Cineplex. Besides, the event will also host online film screenings.
DIFF director Ahmed Muztaba Zamal confirmed it to New Age.
‘The 19th Dhaka International Film Festival is scheduled to begin on January 16, 2021. There will be some changes due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Many prestigious film festivals like the Cannes Film Festival, Shanghai Film Festival and others were held virtually due to the pandemic.
If the situation does not improve, we will hold the festival following COVID-19 health protocols. The festival will also host online film screenings.
Those interested to watch the films online will have to register themselves in advance. Besides, all films will have to be submitted before September 30,’ said Ahmed Muztaba Zamal.
‘We began our preparations for organising the 19th DIFF immediately after curtains came down on the 18th edition of DIFF. We held a number of virtual meetings where filmmakers and festival programmers from both home and aboard attended amid the COVID-19 outbreak. We will also invite fewer foreign guests and participants to the upcoming festival if the COVID-19 situation does not improve in Bangladesh. We will have to wait until November to see what happens,’ added Ahmed Muztaba Zamal.
Rainbow Film Society has been organising the festival since 1992, with the theme ‘Better Film, Better Audience and Better Society’.
