The probe committee recommended termination of sub-inspector Helal and filing a case against him for his involvement in the death of school student Maruf in Chattogram on July 16.

The committee also recommended that Double Mooring police station officer-in-charge Sawdip Das should be asked to explain failure to control his subordinate Helal.

Md Maruf, 19, a student of class-X of T&T Colony High School, who also worked at a local motor parts shop, committed suicide on July 16 after Helal physically assaulted his mother, sisters and the deceased at Boro Mosjid Goli of Badamtoli area in Chattogram.

The police suspended Helal and formed a two-member probe committee with Double Mooring Zone assistant commissioner Sreema Chakma and inspector Zohir Hossain. But Chattogram Metropolitan Police commissioner Mahbubur Rahman suspended the committee after two days and formed a new probe committee on July 18.

On Monday, the committee submitted the 16-page probe report to Chattogram Metropolitan Police commissioner Mahbubur Rahman.
