AL lawmaker Mushtaque tests positive for COVID-19

15 ruling party lawmakers infected so far

Ruling Awami League lawmaker for Satkhira-2 constituency Mir Mushtaque Ahmed Rob has tested positive for COVID-19.

Confirming the test result, Mushtaque told New Age that he received his coronavirus test report on Sunday night and now he was preparing to go to Dhaka for admission to Evercare Hospital there.

Freedom fighter Mushtaque, 66, said that he had been staying in Satkhira for the last seven days and had had no major complication.

Including Mushtaque, at least 15 AL lawmakers and their family members have so far been tested COVID-19 positive. 

They are Khandker Mosharraf Hossain MP for Faridpur-3, liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Huq MP for Gazipur-1, Mohammed Nasim MP for Sirajganj-1, Chittagong Hill Tracts affairs minister Bir Bahadur U Shwe Sing MP for Bandarban, Zaheed Farooque MP for Barishal-5, M Abdus Shahid MP for Maulvibazar-4, Moslem Uddin Ahmed MP for Chattogram-8, Shahiduzzaman Sarker MP for Naogaon-2, Mohammad Ebadul Karim MP for Brahmanbaria-5, Mustafizur Rahman Chowdhury MP for Chattogram-16, Faridul Hoque Khan Dulal MP for Jamalpur-2, Enamul Haque MP for Rajshahi-4, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza MP for Narail-2 and reserved seat woman MP Ferdousi Islam.

Besides, Mohammed Nasim died on June 12 at a hospital in the capital 12 days after he was admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 symptoms. He was later tested positive for the infection.

On June 14, state minister for religious affairs Sheikh M Abdullah died of COVID-19 at the CMH, Dhaka.

Former AL lawmaker for the Bogura-Jaipurhat reserved seat for women Kamrun Nahar Putul died on May 22, former AL lawmaker for Dhaka’s Mohammadpur-Dhanmondi constituency Mockbul Hossain died at the CMH, Dhaka on May 25.

Other than AL leaders, former state minister for finance and planning and Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s former lawmaker Anwarul Kabir Talukder died at the CMH, Dhaka on June 14 and former Jatiya Party lawmaker for Bogura-5 constituency Shahjahan Ali Talukder died at the CMH, Dhaka on June 28.
