The government has appointed Major General Md Ashikuzzaman the new Ambassador of Bangladesh to the State of Kuwait.
He would replace incumbent ambassador SM Abul Kalam as his contractual tenure is set to end on July 31.
Ashikuzzaman would take his new assignment at the earliest, foreign ministry officials said, amid troubles of shrinking of job for foreign workers in the Arab country and arrest of a Bangladesh MP Mohammad Shahid Islam on allegations of human trafficking, bribing Kuwait officials and money laundering.
Ashikuzzaman was commissioned in Bangladesh Army in 1988. Right before his appointment as the ambassador, he was serving as senior directing staff (Army) in the National Defence College, Bangladesh.
He also served in three United Nation peace support missions in Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast and DR Congo.
He obtained his Masters in Defence Studies and Masters in Strategic Studies from National University, Bangladesh.
He is an amateur golfer and artist.
