A least 16 people, including four policeman, were injured during a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chattra League at Chittagong Medical College on Sunday.
The injured are Chhatra League activists Khorshed Bin Mehedi, Emon Sikdar, Abhijit Das, Fahadul Islam, Huzaifa Bin Kabir, Kanak Deb Nath, Sajedul Islam, Sani Hasnat, Faisal Ahmed, Masusm Billah, Mahtab Bin Hashim and Nur Mohammad Tanjim, medical college police outpost in-charge Johirul Islam, and Panchlaish police station sub-inspectors Abu Taleb, Alamgir and Sabuj.
CMCH police outpost incharge Johirul Islam said that additional police forces were deployed following the clash that began at 11:30am.
Students said that two factions are dominant in the BCL branch. One faction is aligned with Chittagong city mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, while another is with deputy education minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury.
Mohibul together with Awami League mayoral candidate of city election Rezaul Karim Chowdhury went to the campus and they donated two sets of High Flow Nasal Cannula to CMCH.
As they left the campus, Chhatra League activists got into the scuffle.
The Chhatra League branch’s president Habibur Rahman said they were attacked by his rivals just after the deputy education minister’s leaving.
Another faction leader Sajedul Islam said that their rivals attacked them and injured seven of their fellows.
Panchlaish police station officer-in-charge Abul Kashem Bhuiyan said that four police officers were also injured during the clash.
