Leaders of Bangladesh Juba Moitri on Saturday demanded resignation of health minister Zahid Maleque and punishments for corrupt officials for their failure to stop corruption in the health ministry.
Juba Moitri, the youth front of the Ruling Awami League’s ally Workers Party of Bangladesh, made the demand at a human chain it formed in front of the National Press Club, protesting against the health ministry’s failure to contain COVID-19 situation and to curb corruption in the ministry.
Juba Moitree president Sabbah Ali Khan Collins told the human chain that the health ministry completely failed to take proper steps to control the spread of COVID-19 and to curb corruption in the health sector.
He demanded immediate resignation of health minister Zahid Maleque and exemplary punishments for the high officials involved in corruption.
Acting general secretary Mutasim Billah Sony, demanded immediate arrest of Regent Hospital chairman Mohammad Shahed for COVID-19 certificate forgery.
Vice presidents Touhid Rahman, Kaiser Alam, publicity secretary MM Miltan, central leaders Manik Hawlader and Tapos Das spoke at the rally.
