The Rajshahi University authorities on Monday celebrated the university’s 67th founding anniversary in a limited manner due to the coronavirus outbreak.
RU vice-chancellor Professor M Abdus Sobhan inaugurated the celebration at 09:00am in front of the university administrative building planting saplings behind the university main entrance.
RU pro-vice-chancellors Professor Ananda Kumar Saha and Professor Choudhury M Zakaria, public relation office administrator Professor Provash Kumar Karmakar, proctor Professor Lutfor Rahman, among others, were present there.
In his speech, Professor M Abdus Sobhan said that the whole world is struggling with the Coronavirus outbreak. Due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the founding anniversary could not be held in style, but hoped to celebrate it in grandeur in future.
‘This epidemic forced us to halt our academic and exam activities for indefinite period. We are thinking to launch online class on July 9 as per the direction of the University Grants Commission, the VC added.
Rajshahi University started its journey with only six departments, 20 teachers and 161 students on July 06 in 1953.
At present, the university has 9 faculties, 58 departments, 6 institutes, 1205 teachers, 37,248 students, 17 dormitories, and 6 higher research bureaus and centres.
