Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said that preventing mass gatherings during Eid-ul-Azaha would be a major challenge for the government as the Eid-ul-Fitr festival celebrated in May had led to considerable increase in COVID-19 infections.
In a video message from his official residence, Obaidul, also road transport and bridges minister, said that the government was currently facing three major challenges.
The first challenge is about ensuring necessary protection for the people from the COVID-19 and stop spreading of the deadly virus, Obaidul said, adding that the second challenge was giving protection and necessary aid to the flood victims in 12 districts.
And the third challenge was the prevention of possible gathering of people during upcoming Eid-ul-Azaha.
‘It is true that infection increased during Eid-ul-Fitr as people had joined mass gatherings,’ Obaidul said, adding that people should respond by maintaining social distancing as coronavirus precaution.
The minister said, ‘The mega development projects under his ministry are going on though initially it faced few obstacles for the coronavirus outbreak.’
He said that the works of development projects now continue following the necessary health guidelines as per the order of the prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
