The government has appointed Tareq Md Ariful Islam, a career diplomat, as the next high commissioner of Bangladesh to Sri Lanka.
He is currently serving as deputy permanent representative at the Bangladesh permanent mission to the United Nations headquarters in New York, USA.
Tareq, a foreign service officer belonging to 17th batch of Bangladesh Civil Service, had earlier served at the Bangladesh deputy high commission in Kolkata, India.
He worked in various capacities in different wings, including as the director general of South Asia wing at the foreign ministry.
He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka and Master’s degree in diplomacy and trade from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.
