BRAC Bank, a member of the BRAC family, observed its 19th founding anniversary on Saturday, said a press release.
Founded by Fazle Hasan Abed in 2001, the bank commenced its operations on July 4 that year.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the bank refrained from holding any celebration programmes on the occasion of its 19th founding anniversary this year, said the release.
BRAC Bank chairman Ahsan H Mansur, said, ‘I respectfully remember Sir Fazle Hasan Abed today; I am still inspired by the vision and values that he shared with me from time to time and also while entrusting me with the role to lead this reputable bank. I would like to congratulate the entire BRAC family for their tireless efforts to progress the bank’s financial inclusion agenda and add value to all its stakeholders’.
Fazle Hasan Abed, who passed away last year, established BRAC Bank primarily to create greater financial access for the ‘missing middle’ – the small and medium entrepreneurs of Bangladesh who needed institutional financing to grow and prosper, the release said.
He was its chairperson in two phases, from 2001-2008, and 2013-2019, before retiring on August 26, 2019 and passing on the baton to Ansan.
‘I believe that our bank has already established itself as one of the leading banks in Bangladesh and is now attempting become a bank of international standards. In this journey, which is the vision shared by Sir Fazle, the SME sector will always remain as the focus of BRAC Bank’, Ahsan added.
The bank’s managing director and CEO, Selim RF Hussain, also thanked all the stakeholders of the bank on the occasion.
He said, ‘Encouraging entrepreneurship is key to sustaining Bangladesh’s economic development, and in this regard, BRAC Bank has proven itself to be one of the most successful financial institutions of the country. We shall continue realising the dream of Sir Fazle to create a poverty-free Bangladesh by ensuring our support and devotion to the unbanked population and other client segments as the most modern, customerfriendly and technologically advanced bank in Bangladesh’.
BRAC Bank workers have expressed their gratitude on different social media to its investors, customers, and shareholders for their unwavering trust in the bank.
