Border Security Force of India allegedly shot dead a Bangladeshi youth along Bahadurpur border under Benapole port police station in Jashore on Friday.
Victim Riya Morol, 24, son of Abdul Jabbar of Bahadurpur village, was hit by bullet in the chest, said subedar Sanwar Hossain, commander, Dhanyakhola camp of Border Guard Bangladesh.
Lieutenant colonel Selim Reza, commanding officer of BGB Battalion-49, told New Age they were suspecting that the youth was shot dead by the BSF.
The BGB official they discussed the matter with their Indian counterparts, adding that the victim was wanted ‘in 3-4 cases of smuggling.’
At least 25 Bangladeshi nationals became victims of border killings in six months and 21 of them were shot dead and four others were tortured to death, according to a report of rights organisation Ain o Salish Kendra published on Tuesday.
