One killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with the Teknaf police in Moheskhalia Para Fishery Ghat area early Friday.

The deceased was Abul Kasem, 35, of the area.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf police station, said that a police team raided the area at around 12:30am on secret information.

A group of suspected drug peddlers opened fire on the team that triggered the gunfight. Abul Kashem sustained bullet injuries while his cohorts managed to escape from the spot.

Later, he was taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctor declared him dead, said the OC.

The police also seized 10,000 pieces of Yaba pills, a locally made gun and six cartridges from Kashem’s possession, said Pradip.
