A man reportedly attempted to kill himself after killing his two daughters in Vandargaon area at Kashiyash of Patia upazila in Chattogram early Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Tuku Barua, 15 and Nishu Barua, 10, daughters of Mukhendu Barua. Tuku was a student of class VIII and Nishi was a student of class V.
Patia police station officer-in-charge Borhan Uddin said that Mukhendu used to live and work in Dhaka while his two daughters lived at their maternal grandfather’s house after the demise of their mother.
Due to coronavirus situation, Mukhendu went to his in-law’s house two months ago.
On Wednesday, Mukhendu strangled his two daughters to death sometime in the night and took poison in a bid to kill himself, said the OC.
However, the reason behind the incident could not be known immediately.
After getting post-mortem report they would know the details, he added.
Vandargaon upazila parishad chairman Md Yusuf said that after killing his daughters Mukhendu was staying at the house. Later, locals informed the matter police.
Police went to the spot and rescued Mukhendu and took him to upazila health complex.
Five years ago Mukhendu’s wife died of cancer, the UP chairman added.
