Tariqul Islam Chowdhury has been appointed the managing director and chief executive officer of South Bangla Agriculture and Commerce Bank, said a press release.
Prior to the appointment, he served as the acting additional managing director of the bank.
The bank’s board of directors appointed him to the new post at the 105th board meeting and the Bangladesh Bank also recently gave its approval to his appointment.
Tariqul joined as MD and CEO on July 1, 2020 for the next three years.
Before joining SBAC Bank, Tariqul was the DMD of state-owned Sonali Bank where he started his career as a financial analyst in 1984.
In his long banking career, he also served as branch manager, regional manager, divisional manager, HR head and credit, treasury management division head, currency management division at Sonali Bank.
He completed his BCom degree and M Com (accounting) degree from Dhaka University. In 1988, he earned his DAIBB diploma certificate from the Institute of Bankers Bangladesh.
