There has been a sudden surge in COVID-19 infection in police force in last two days while another cop died from the virus attack early Tuesday.
The deceased, Hafizur Rahman, 53, son of late Rajob Ali Mollah of Ghasiari village under Shreepur upazila in Magura, was a sub-inspector posted at Faridpur district court.
Till date, 42 cops died of COVID-19 in last two months, said police officials.
Faridpur police superintendent Alimuzzaman said that Hafizur was tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday and shifted immediately to Impulse Hospital in in Tejgaon of Dhaka as his condition deteriorated.
The breathed his last there at around 3:00am, said Alimuzzaman.
He was buried at his village graveyard as per guidelines set by the World Health Organisation.
Meanwhile, the law enforcing agency witnessed a sudden surge in infection as over 600 cops were found infected in last two days raising the figure to 10,764, said police headquarters officials.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police is the worst hit unit where around 2,300 have been infected so far.
Police said that around 6,500 force members have recovered and resumed services.
