Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday alleged that people’s safety and security remained unimportant as the government were always busy with preserving its dominance.

The BNP leader, in a condolence message in the backdrop of Monday’s Buriganga launch capsize that claimed at least 32 lives so far, made the allegation and said, ‘For this reason, a huge number of people are dying untimely in such types of accidents frequently.’

Fakhrul alleged that serious anarchic situation was prevailing in the transport sector.

‘Safety and security of people’s lives and properties remain elusive if any authoritarian government remains in power. There is no guarantee of passengers’ lives for want of proper enforcement of law,’ he said.

He expressed his sympathy to the family members of the deceased people in the launch capsize and prayed for eternal peace of their departed souls in heaven.
