Mercantile Bank has launched a Shariah based Islamic banking service called TAQWA, said a press release.
The bank’s chairman, Morshed Alam MP, inaugurated the service on June 29, 2020 in a virtual ceremony.
The ceremony was broadcast live on the official Facebook page of Mercantile Bank.
Initially Mercantile Bank will offer this special service through the Islamic banking window at its countrywide 10 branches alongside its regular conventional banking services.
The chairman said that by fulfilling special client demands, the Islamic banking facility will ensure all types of client services simultaneously with the conventional banking services.
The Islamic Banking service will be available at the main branch, Dhanmondi and Uttara branches in Dhaka, Agrabad branch in Chattogram, Barishal branch, Feni branch, Choumohani and Banglabazar branches in Noakhali, Faridganj branch in Chandpur and Damudya branch in Shariatpur.
The bank’s vice-chairman Akram Hossain (Humayun), executive committee chairman Md Anwarul Haque, audit committee chairman Md Rahmat Ullah, Mercantile Bank Foundation chairman AKM Shaheed Reza, directors ASM Feroz Alam, M Amanullah, Mosharref Hossain and MA Khan Belal, managing director and CEO Md Quamrul Islam Chowdhury, DMD and DCBO Md Zakir Hossain, AMD and CRO Mati Ul Hasan, DMDs and senior executives of the bank and Islamic banking division haed Syed Murtaza Hasan joined the virtual inaugural ceremony.
A prayer session was held for the departed soul of the recently passed sponsor director and vice-chairman of the bank Mohd Selim.
