A Natore court on Friday allowed police to interrogate Dhaka University student Sumaiya Khatun’s husband and father-in-law for three days in police custody over her death five days ago.
Natore Police Station officer-in-charge Jahangir Alam said that they arrested the victim’s husband Mostaque Hossain and his father Zakir Hossain on Thursday and placed them before additional chief judicial magistrate Mehedi Hasan in the morning and sought seven days to question them in police custody.
He said that the court, after hearing the police petition, granted interrogation for three days.
Sumaiya Khatun, a master’s degree student of DU Islamic studies department, was taken by her in-laws at Natore Sadar Hospital where doctors declared her dead on Sunday night.
Police arrested Sumaiya’s mother-in-law Syeda Maleka and sister-in-law Juthi Khatun on Monday night hours after the victim’s mother Nuzhat Sultana filed a murder case with the police accusing four people for killing her daughter.
OC Jahangir said that they also sought permission to quiz Maleka and Juthi for five days and the court set Sunday for hearing on the plea.
