Lawyer Idrisur Rahman dies of COVID-19

Senior Supreme Court lawyer and human rights activist Md Idrisur Rahman died of COVID-19 infection.

He was 64.

His junior Pratikar Chakma told New Age that Idrisur Rahman died at Asgar Ali Hospital in Gandaria in old Dhaka at about 4:00am on Wednesday.

Idrisur Rahman, who had been under treatment with respiratory problems, was diagnosed with COVID-19 recently, he said.

He was a pioneer lawyer for public interest litigation writ petitions. One of the PIL was relating to Section 54 of CrPC and the High Court had declared arrest on suspicion under Section 54 as constructional and the Appellate Division also upheld the verdict.

Idrisur Rahman is survived by his wife, son, daughter and a host of admirers to mourn his death. He was buried at his family graveyard in Bangora village under Muradnagar upazila in Cumilla.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain expressed deep shock at the death of Idrisur.

Supreme Court Bar Association also expressed condolence on Idrisur’s death.
