Belal Hossain, managing editor of Jashore local newspaper daily Noapara, died of COVID-19 in Dhaka on Wednesday. He was 53.
Belal, also a football organiser, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital at about 5:00pm, said his brother and the daily’s publisher Aslam Hossain.
He said that Belal tested positive for COVID-19 on June 18 while he was undergoing treatment for kidney-related disease at a Khulna hospital.
After Belal tested positive for COVID-19 he was transferred to Dhaka for better treatment, said Aslam.
Including Belal, a total of eight journalists and media workers died of COVID-19 while seven others died with COVID-19 symptoms.
According to media houses and journalist organisations, till Wednesday 434 journalists and media workers are affected by the coronavirus.
Of them, 369 are from Dhaka and 65 from across the country.
They are from 104 media houses including 55 newspapers, 27 television channels, 16 internet news portals, five radios and one news agency.
