Viewers can enjoy the festival visiting the Facebook page or YouTube channel of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy where videos of puppet shows are being uploaded daily.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy uploaded the video of puppet show titled ‘Modhumala Modonkumar’, staged by Bijoyi Rani Opera Putul Natyadal and produced by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, on June 12. Two years later, at a meeting of the International Council of UNIMA in June 2002 in Atlanta, the date of the World Puppetry Day was fixed. The first celebration was held in 2003.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is celebrating World Puppetry Day virtually this year as its venues are currently closed to contain the spread of COVID-19.

‘As our auditoriums are currently closed to contain the spread of COVID-19, we cannot hold any programmes at the academy this year. We have been uploading videos of one puppet show daily on our Facebook page and YouTube channel. The videos were recorded last year during the National Puppetry Festival 2019. We will upload 21 videos in total. I hope viewers will enjoy the event,’ Hasan Mahmud, public relations officer at BSA, told New Age.
