Workers Party of Bangladesh and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-Jasod on Wednesday condemned the killing of a black American man in police custody which immediately sparked nationwide protests in the US.
George Floyd, an unarmed black man, was killed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States on May 25. During the arrest, a white police officer Derek Chauvin kept his knee on the side of Floyd’s neck for almost nine minutes while Floyd was handcuffed and lying face down.
Workers Party, a partner of Awami League-led alliance, president Rashed Khan Menon and general secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha in a press statement said that it was not new in the US that black men and minorities were repressed.
The brutal killing of Floyd by US police sparked protests across the US with New York witnessing sporadic violence as police were trying to stop the protesters applying forces, they said.
During the tenure of president Donald Trump, the racial incidents were increasing in the country, the WP leaders said.
They called on the US government to take immediate steps to stop the racial killing and ensure safety of the immigrants of the country.
In another press statement, Jasod president Hasanul Haq Inu and general secretary Shirin Akther also condemned the brutal killing and demanded exemplary punishment of the responsible police personnel.
