The High Court on Wednesday directed the government to take steps to sell state-owned Trading Corporation Bangladesh’s essentials commodities to consumers at the upazila level beyond the city corporation and municipality areas.
The court also directed the prime minister’s principal secretary, commerce secretary and chairman of the TCB to submit a compliance after complying with the directive within seven days on June 11.
The online bench of Justice JBM Hassan issued the directive after hearing online a public interest litigation writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Humaun Kabir Pallob.
He told the court that the government should expand the project of selling TCB goods to upazila levels from the city and municipality so that poor people can purchase daily essential commodities at cheaper rate during the coronavirus crisis.
Deputy attorney general Samarendranath Biswas represented the state.
