Directorate General of Health Services issued a notice making it mandatory to use face mask alongside other healthy practices during outdoor movement.

The notice, signed by DGHS additional director general Nasima Sultana, was issued under the authority of the Communicable Diseases (Prevention, Control and Eradication) Act 2018.

Anyone violating the directives might be fined up to Tk 1 lakh or six-month in jail or both under the sections 24 and 25 of the law, according to the notice on May 30.

The district administration and other authorities concerned were directed to enforce the orders ‘carefully’, according to the notice.

None could go outdoor from 8:00pm to 6:00am unless emergencies like essential shopping, commuting to and from work, buying medicines, health needs and burials.

Earlier on May 6, the DGHS issued a notice banning outdoor movement from 6:00pm to 6:00am, unless the emergencies.

The DGHS issued the notice before lifting the restrictions on public movement, running businesses and offices from Sunday.

Bangladesh continued to grapple with the surge of COVID-19 patients and deaths in recent weeks.

Until Monday morning, 672 people died and 49,534 people got infected with the novel coronavirus.

The DGHS issued several directives earlier under the Communicable Diseases (Prevention, Control and Eradication) Act 2018, but the directives were largely ignored with lackadaisical implementation by the authorities.
