Left politicians and eminent economists of the country on Saturday at a views exchange programme said that the government should take well-organised steps to tackle the post-coronavirus crises of the country’s economy.
Due to the prolong coronavirus situation, the economy of the country had incurred huge loss and it could be recovered taking a well-organised plan and economic programmes, they said.
Democratic Left Alliance, a combine of eight left leaning political parties held the views exchange programme virtually which was conducted by coordinator of the combine Bazlur Rashid Firoz from Dhaka.
During three month of coronavirus situation it was proved that how much the health sector of the country was neglected before and as a result the country had failed to tackle the coronavirus crisis, they added.
Former Bangladesh Bank governor Saleh Uddin Ahmed said that during the pandemic the export earning, remittance, agriculture and informal sectors of the country had faced huge losses, which could be tackled through well-organised economic steps.
Communist Party of Bangladesh president Mujahidul Islam Selim said that government should give adequate allocations in health and agriculture sector in the upcoming budget for the development of the sector.
Economist and Jahangirnagar University professor Anu Muhammad said that the government of Awami League was claiming that they had achieved huge development in a decade but failed to tackle corona situation in the country.
Economist and Dhaka University Professor MM Akash said that the government should take a short term and long term economic programmes to face the economic losses of the country during the pandemic.
Economist and former teacher of Chattagram University Moinul Islam said that corona had created new situations in the world economy and it would take long time to revive the economy.
Former executive director of Centre for Policy Dialogue Mostafizur Rahman said that the government should start new economic programmes for upcoming budget to recovering the economic losses for coronavirus.
Dhaka University professor and economist Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir said that from the pandemic we had found that how our economy was fragile.
Jahangirnagar University teacher and economist Sharmind Nilormi Dali said government should take economic programmes to save the informal sector workers who lost their jobs during the pandamic.
Socialist Party of Bangladesh general secretary Khalequzzaman told that government should give sufficient allocations in the health sector of the country in the upcoming budget.
Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki said that the government had failed to tackle coronavirus situation properly.
Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq, United Communist League general secretary Mosharraf Hossain Nannu, Democratic Revolutionary Party general secretary Mushrefa Mishu and others also took part at the discussion meeting.
