The research was conducted under the guidance and instruction of science and technology affairs minister Yafes Osman, senior secretary Md Anwar Hossain and BCSIR chairman Md Faruk Ahmed, said a press release.

The researchers, led by principal scientific officer Md Selim Khan, detected nine variants of coronavirus at the amino acid level during the data analysis. They found similarity of the specimens with the virus that spread in Europe, particularly in Sweden.

Sequencing data of more coronavirus from different areas of the country are required to accelerate the research on its source, cluster, transmission dynamics, molecular dating and vaccine design.
