Former foreign minister M Morshed Khan along with his wife left Dhaka on Thursday by a chartered flight to the United Kingdom although the Anti-Corruption Commission banned his foreign travel in 2019 in connection with a corruption case.

The foreign chartered flight carrying four crew members landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 3:00pm Coordinated Universal Time and took off with the two passengers an hour later on Thursday, the airport officials told New Age.

Special superintendent of police (immigration) Mohammad Shahriar Alam said that Morshed Khan left Dhaka for the United Kingdom with his wife getting permission from the court concerned.

‘The elderly man is sick and the court has allowed his travel on medical ground,’ he said.

In June 2019, the commission imposed a ban on foreign travel by Bangladesh Nationalist Party former vice-chairman M Morshed Khan while it interrogated former Awami League lawmaker M Shirajul Islam Mollah.

The commission imposed the ban as part of its investigation into a case of his alleged involvement in embezzlement of Tk 383.22 crore from the Mohakhali branch of AB Bank Ltd.

The commission filed a case against 16 people, including Morshed Khan and three former managing directors of AB Bank Ltd in this regard on June 28, 2017.
