Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury, who tested positive for COVID-19 on May 24 using his institution-developed Rapid Dot Blot kit on May 24, also tested coronavirus positive in a test run by Real Times Polymerase Chain Reaction for COVID-19.
‘Zafrullah Chowdhury gave sample at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Wednesday for PCR test and they gave the result today. The BSMMU result shows that he is COVID-19 positive,’ Gonoshasthaya Kendra microbiologist Bijon Kumar Shil told New Age on Thursday evening.
He said that he conducted Zafrullah’s test using their Rapid Dot Blot kit on May 24 evening and it needed only 15 minutes to get the result while the PCR test needed one day for giving the result.
Bijon said that Zafrullah was doing better and was now taking treatment in isolation.
Officials at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital at the capital’s Dhanmondi said that Zafrullah, also a diabetic and a kidney patient, was given dialysis Thursday afternoon and administrated with plasma therapy in the evening.
Zafrullah told New Age on Wednesday evening that he was doing well.
He said that his infection was detected at a very primary stage and that it was possible only because the Gonoshasthaya kit was available and he needed not to wait.
The veteran health expert said that he went to isolation immediately after detection on May 24 and was still in isolation.
