JL leader held for beating villager for avoiding open space Eid prayer

The police arrested a Juba League leader for beating a villager and threatening others of Chhota Derhar village under Nandigram in Bogura for not saying Eid prayer in open space arranged by a JL leader Monday morning.

The arrested, Sohagh Hossain, is the president of Ward-6 unit of Awami Juba League  of Nandigran Sadar union unit and a member of the union parishad.

Police officials and local people said that a group of people of villagers led by Juba leaders Alam and Reza arranged Eid jamaat in an open space at the local eidgah while some others arranged another jamaat at a local mosque where the mosque imam conducted the Eid prayer.

After saying prayers, some youths rebuked the imam for conducting prayer at the mosque and threatened him of dire consequences.

Some of the villagers protested against it and both the groups locked in a clash at about 9:00am when devotee Hanif, 30, of the village was injured.

Police rushed the spot, brought the situation under control and arrested Sohagh Hossain for attacking the villager taking side of Alam and Reza, they said. 

Nandigram police station officer-in-charge said that they were expecting a case from the injured.
