A 60-year-old man was killed and 10 others were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers at Kangalakandi of Shahajadpur in Sirajganj on Sunday morning.
Police said that the deceased was identified as Nazim Uddin, a resident of the village.
Local people said that two groups of villagers — followers of one Md Nazrul Islam and followers of one Abdur Rouf were locked in a clash in the morning over establishing supremacy in the area and Nazim became critically injured as he had been trying to calm both the groups.
He died on his way to hospital, his grandson Nasir Uddin told New Age.
At least 10 of both the groups were injured during the clash and were taking treatment at different local clinics, local people said.
Shahajadpur police officer-in-charge Ataur Rahman said that they arrested two people for their suspected involvement in the murder.
He said that they sent the body to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination and they were expecting a case from the deceased’s family.
