Indian border guard shots Bangladesh national to death in Sylhet

Border Security Force of India shot a Bangladesh national to death along Jaflong border under Goainghat upazila in Sylhet district Saturday morning, the police said.

The deceased, Kala Mia, 37, of Nayabasti area of Jaflang, was a labourer by profession.

Goainghat police officer-in-charge Md Abdul Ahad told New Age that the victim went to collect wood by his boat along the river and anyhow entered into India crossing the bordering line when BSF men shot him to death near Dauki bridge inside Indian territory.

He said that the BSF handed over the body to its Bangladesh counterpart Border Guard Bangladesh in the afternoon.

The BSF men in four months between January and April this year had killed 17 Bangladeshi nationals, injured 11 others and abducted 11 more Bangladeshis, according to rights organisation Ain o Salish Kendra data.
