Four killed as truck overturns in Sirajganj

Four people were killed as a goods-laden truck plunged into a roadside ditch on Dhaka-Rajshahi highway at Nalka of Sirajganj on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Ali Akbar, 40, his wife Nurjahan Begum 24, of Nababganj in Dinajpur, and Sohel Rana Hossain, 22, of Panchbibi of Jaipurhat. Another deceased woman could not be identified yet.

Hatikumrul highway police station officer-in-charge Khairul Islam said that a Soyabean-oil laden truck overturned and plunged into the ditch after its driver lost control.

Three people died on the spot and two others got injured.

The injured were taken to Sirajganj General Hospital where the unidentified woman died, said resident medical officer Faridul Islam.

The Khairul said that police seized the truck but its driver and his assistant fled the scene.

People are going to village home during Eid holidays defying the restriction due to the coronavirus pandemic.
