Agrani Bank, BKash disburse Tk 116.74cr from PM’s education assistant trust

Agrani Bank in cooperation with mobile financial service BKash has disbursed Tk 102.74 crore among 2.1 lakh students through mobile banking and Tk 14 crore to 2,000 educational institutions through online payment system under the Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Trust, said a press release.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the distribution of stipend and tuition fee under Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Trust through a video conference from Ganabhaban in Dhaka on Thursday.

Education minister Dipu Moni, deputy minister of education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury and education secretary along with Agrani Bank managing director and chief executive officer Mohammad Shams-Ul Islam and BKash CEO Kamal Kadir were connected to the video conference virtually from the ministry.

At the request of the education minister, Agrani Bank and BKash, in an honorary gesture to the prime minister, have distributed the stipend and tuition fee without any commission which saved the Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Fund about Tk 54 lakh.

Agrani Bank and BKash have earlier also successfully distributed stipends among 45 lakhs students over mobile phones.  — New Age
