Allegations of arranging public gathering, violating the social distancing directives to curb COVID-19 transmission, have been raised against the local Bangladesh Chhatra League activists of Rangabali in Patuakhali.
Locals said that the activists, under the leadership of upazila BCL president Kamrujjaman Shibli and general secretary Ashikur Rahman Ujjal, brought two separate rallies out in the area to accord a reception to Patuakhali 4 constituency lawmaker Mohibur Rahman on Friday.
They paraded the main roads in the area and joined the Upazila Parishad premises for the reception. Later Mohibur Rahman distributed relief among the locals there.
Kamrujjaman said that they had welcomed the lawmaker maintaining social distance whereas the gathering was created by the people who crowded the spot to collect relief materials.
Upazila BCL general secretary Ashikur said, ‘The photographs are older ones. We’ve maintained social distance.’
Lawmaker Mohibur Rahman, however, claimed that none had accorded him any reception in the area.
