11 police officials among 22 test positive for COVID-19

Eleven police officials among 22 people had tested positive for coronavirus in Sirajganj and Barishal on Thursday.

New Age correspondent in Sirajganj reported that 10 people, including three policemen, tested positive for coronavirus in Sirajganj.

Nine tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday evening, according to civil surgeon’s office. Another person who was infected in Dhaka had fled to Kazipur in Sirajganj.

Kazipur police station had been put under lockdown since Thursday night as three police officials in Kazipur tested positive.

Upazila nirbahi officer Zahid Hasan Siddique said, ‘Six new people have been tested positive in Kazipur. As police officials have been infected so the police station has been locked down.’

Kazipur police officer-in-charge AKM Lutfur Rahman said that the three infected police officials had been kept in home quarantine near the police station.

Civil surgeon’s office statistician Mirza Md Humayun Kabir said in the evening that so far 16 people had tested positive in the district.

Meanwhile, United News of Bangladesh reported that twelve people including eight policemen of Barishal Metropolitan Police were infected with coronavirus in Barishal district in the last 24 hours till Thursday.

Police commissioner Shahabuddin Khan said that one sub-inspector of traffic police and seven constables were diagnosed with COVID-19 on Thursday.

A constable, who served as the driver at the deputy commissioner’s office tested positive recently. Later, samples of 49 people, who were supposed to come in contact with the constable, were collected and sent for lab testing.

Later the report showed that eight policemen, 2 family members of the infected policeman, and two others tested positive for the virus.

Besides, 36 people have so far recovered from the disease.

A total of 1,943 members of Bangladesh Police got infected with coronavirus as of Thursday as new cases are also on the rise across the country.
