The Bangladesh Chess Federation is set to organise an online national tournament and a development programme to remain active during coronavirus pandemic, said federation secretary Shahabuddin Shamim on Tuesday. The World Chess Federation suggested online events during COVID-19 in response to the requests madeby all national chess federations across the world, he said. Despite promising to give $15,000 to each of the member associations, FIDE only allotted $5,000 to each of thefederationsfor tournament and training. FIDE issued a letter to the BCF on May 5 and asked them to send a proposal with details about the programmes. ‘We are thinking to spend fifty per cent money for the tournament and the rest of fifty per cent on training,’ added Shamim. — New Age
